Rebel Dietitians: Kait Fortunato, RD, LD and Dana Magee, RD, LD

PROLOGUE: When I created my Guilt-Free RD name and tagline, and started sharing my philosophy, I received overwhelmingly positive feedback from other RDs and I knew I’d struck a cord with like-minded dietitians. That sparked an idea for a new way to interview, share and promote dietitians, their brands and their services. My traditional dietitian interviews are longer and more focused on sharing communications tips and tricks as well as the interviewee’s career journey. In contrast, these interviews will be shorter and more focused on the RD’s food philosophy. I hope you enjoy them and will contact me to share YOUR food philosophy!

MELISSA: Kait and Dana, what is your food philosophy and why?

KAIT & DANA: The REBEL Dieting approach is to rebuild clients’ relationship with food and help clients steer clear of the next dieting disappointment that ultimately leaves them further away from their health goals. We believe that healthy eating is not just about nutrition knowledge but also achieving a better their quality of life and conquering emotional eating or binge eating to decrease stress and guilt around food. As REBEL Dietitians we work with the non-dieting approach to intuitive eating and encourage our clients to take down the labels of “good” or “bad” food in order to eat for enjoyment while paying attention to their nutrition.

MELISSA: Tell us a little more about you and your brand.

KAIT & DANA: As REBELs we encourage our clients to REBEL against diets, REBEL against the scale and to not let food get in the way of what really matters.  As REBEL Dietitians we feel nutrition is very important, but it is not the only key to happiness and only deserves a small space in our everyday lives. We help our clients put food back in its place leaving room to better their relationships, stress levels, and fun in their life.

MELISSA: What are your services?

KAIT & DANA: We offer individual counseling for clients that may label themselves as “professional dieters”, emotional eaters, binge eaters and/or overeaters.  We also work with other dietitians to become REBEL Dietitians and spread the message to compete with the $70 billion a year put into the diet industry!

MELISSA: Where can we find you and follow you online?

KAIT & DANA:
Find us on the web at Rebel Dietitian and Rebecca Bitzer and Associates, Facebook and Twitter.

MELISSA: Do you have any resources and/or advice for other RDs to build their brand, boost their communication skills, start their own biz, etc.?

KAIT & DANA: We believe the key is finding something you are passionate about and aligning your personal and professional values. We are also advocates for practicing gratitude, taking the time each day to stay positive and be thankful.
We also just co-wrote a book “Welcome to the Rebelution: Seven Steps to the Nutrition Private Practice of Your Dreams” and we offer business coaching for dietitians.

EPILOGUE: Thank you to Kait and Dana for sharing their food philosophy, brand and services with us! I hope you have been inspired!
